I saw her too (over St Clair) and also tracked on Mode-S/ADS-B; I am still getting few acars hits (last one was at 16:50).

Apparently landing gear failed to retract after depature.

They dumped fuel and have returned to Sydney.

Cheers

Adam, Do you know if that is classified as an emergency landing or not?

Matthew

Not sure if it is classified as an emergecy. Somebody else may know.

I happened to be having a lazy afternoon on the couch and i was listening to LiveATC on the net and heard it unfold.

All seemed very by the book and calm. Was quite interesting to listen to, MAS requested fuel dump, ATC directed them away from a populated area. After commencing fuel dump ATC requested nature of the problem and do they require emergency services. Negative to emergency services and when they finished fuel dump vectored straight back for landing.

Just regarding fuel dump does the fuel disolve in the air or does it literally fall to the ground like rain?
