Qantas do a fair few A380 repositioning flights between Melbourne and Sydney, Why they don't take paying passengers?

How often do they do this now days? I would have thought that with LHR-MEL flights now operating as well as LAX-MEL flights that any repositioning could be done in either LHR or LAX.

Ash,
The A380 for MEL-LAX comes down to MEL on Wednesdays as QF6017 then heads back up to SYD as QF6018 on Tuesdays. Not sure about the aircraft used for the LHR runs. |

The A380s operate SYD-LHR-MEL-LHR-SYD, so no reposition flights are needed. There are only the 2 flights per week that Dan mentioned.
