Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului is just in the process of crossing the North Queensland coast. Certainly packing a punch as it does, currently a Severe Category 3.
Couple of METAR's from surrounding aerodromes: Hamilton Island, shortly to see the eye of the cyclone SPECI YBHM 201222Z AUTO 15055G74KT //// // ////// 24/22 Q0996 RMK RF02.4/020.2 Proserpine, just starting to get some of the gale force winds SPECI YBPN 201210Z AUTO 18019G29KT 9999NDV // SCT030 BKN036 OVC048 25/21 Q1003 RMK RF00.2/001.6 Mackay, while 100km away, is situated in one of the worst parts of the cyclone SPECI YBMK 201215Z AUTO 13045G57KT 0900NDV // SCT010 BKN016 OVC022 24/23 Q1004 RMK RF02.6/020.2 Image attached that was taken at 1220 UTC (2220 local).
