ZND is indeed operating the QF9 service today and is about an hour west of Melbourne on its way to Perth. It is then scheduled to depart Perth at 18:50 local time which will be 21:50 in Sydney.

Thanks. As a matter of interest, ZNB left for Perth 45 minutes earlier, at 15.35 on QF777, a domestic, Insurance?? It is scheduled to come back to MEL tonight on 648 at 23.25. Is that a first overnighter for PER/MEL with the 789?

With 6.5 hours on the ground in Perth it could well have a secondary purpose as a back up 789 for the Perth to London leg. Good insurance against negative publicity on such an important inaugural flight if it was cancelled or extremely delayed while a replacement aircraft was flown in.

An interesting article from Australian Business Traveller addressing the potential of QANTAS PER to CDG flights on the 789. Commence in late 2019 if the economics of the PER to LHR flights work out. No mention of ordering additional 789s though but FRA mentioned to follow. The link is:

It seems that a certain Travel Agent in Perth scored Seat 1A on the first QF9.
He is of course known here - one Luke Chittock. https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/tra...-ng-b88781556z

"In addition we want to fly somewhere new in the states," Joyce said, with the announcement of which city will see the red-tailed Dreamliners to be made "later this year or early next year." "That will either be Seattle where we would work with our partner Alaska Airlines, or it will be Chicago or Dallas working with American Airlines." |
