Default QF108 return to LAX
QF108 LAX-SYD a 744 returned to LAX last night - anyone have further details or which aircraft?

Looks like it was OJM. Not sure on the reason it returned though?

Was just reading on a.net that United 839 didn't go last night either. Could be a good morning for spotting 744's there tomorrow if they all go tonight from here?

Definitely was OJM,but interestingly enough the LAX-JFK sector that this aircraft was scheduled to operate on the 19/11 was also cancelled.

Whether it is a related matter,I don't know.

Noticing an extra LAX arrival for UA on the FIDS for tomorrow.. UA1764. Unfortunately no related departure at this stage.

UA1764 being ops by N117UA, Regular UA839 being ops by N171UA. Incoming QF12 being ops by VH-OQB.. Now waiting to see if we get a QF108 and QF108D out of LAX...

Question Poor Catalina!
Is it usual to dump fuel over Catalina Island? Surely open sea is better, or is there no clear airspace other than over Catalina?

Looks like OJM is still at LAX.....according to flightaware anyway.

3 United birds are on their way to SYD at the moment to cover yesterdays 839 cancellation.

Hi Philip

My understanding is that the fuel will most likely vaporize in the air before it hits the ground. It is still present and suspended in the atmosphere and Boeing in the following link points out that this can cause an unseemly odour and that the vaporized fuel will eventually sink down to the ground.

Looked at flightaware and it says OJM is scheduled for a one hour flight from LAX-LAX this morning at around 11am.

Would this be testing something on takeoff?
