What: On Sunday 28 March, 2010 the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter will host the inaugural Rescue Base Open Day at their La Perouse helicopter base. This will be the first time the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter service has opened its La Perouse hanger doors to the general public.

The Life Saver Rescue helicopter crew will be joined by other search, rescue and emergency organisations to showcase the diverse tasks and missions undertaken across the Sydney community. Other organisations attending on the day include Surf Lifesaving NSW, Sydney Water Police, Marine Rescue, NSW Police, the NSW Police Dog Squad, Police Rescue and Bomb Squad, the NSW Fire Brigade, SES and RFS to name a few.

The Rescue Base Open Day will feature a line-up of emergency service vehicles with visitors able to get up close to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, police cars, fire trucks and surf rescue boats. There will also be action packed demonstrations throughout the day including simulated helicopter winch rescues, the NSW Police dog squad, the Police Rescue and Bomb Squad’s “bomb robot” and the Australian Federal Police currency detection sniffer dogs.

The Rescue Base Open Day is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to meet the heroic people behind each service, participate in a range of interactive activities and demonstrations and learn more about the vital work the emergency services sector does.

Visitors will enjoy live entertainment throughout the day with sausage sizzle, raffles, and food, refreshments and fundraising merchandise available to purchase. A regular shuttle bus will transport visitors to and from the base. Visitors will be asked to make a gold coin donation on the day. All funds raised will be donated to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service, Greater Sydney Region.
