Hi Anthony,
My hosting company had problems with the server for www.16Right.com and unfortunately it took almost three days to fix. Normally the host is very reliable and it is almost three years to the month since there was a similar incident. I have just been checking and everything seemes to be in order again so I have processed the ACARS logs for the 1st and 2nd June to complete the picture.

Hi Grahame,
I run my acars 24/7 up here in Townsville but never log Cathay messages, and at least two if not three Cathay flights pass over TSV daily. My scanner is set on 131.55 which makes me think Cathay are transmitting on a different frequency. Would this be the case you think? Cheers, Dave. |

Hi Dave,
Over the last few years I have been receiving all the Cathay aircraft types operating through Sydney. I am using an Icom IC-R20 which has Dual Watch, allowing me to monitor 131.55 MHz and 131.45 MHz simultaneously. Unfortunately I cannot tell which frequency individual aircraft transmit on, but you could try 131.45 MHz when you know there should be a Cathay aircraft in range. These are the Cathay registrations I have received so far: B-HIH B747-267B(SF) B-HKH B747-412(BCF) B-HKJ B747-412(BCF) B-HKS B747-412(BCF) B-HLH A330-342 B-HLI A330-341 B-HLM A330-343X B-HLN A330-343X B-HLO A330-343X B-HLP A330-343X B-HLQ A330-343X B-HLR A330-343X B-HLS A330-343X B-HLT A330-343X B-HLU A330-343X B-HLV A330-343X B-HLW A330-343X B-HMD B747-2XBF B-HME B747-2XBF B-HMF B747-2XBF B-HOU B747-467(BCF) B-HQA A340-642 B-HQB A340-642 B-HQC A340-642 B-HUH B747-467F(SCD) B-HUL B747-467F(SCD) B-HUO B747-467F(SCD) B-HUP B747-467F(SCD) B-HUQ B747-467F(SCD) B-HUQ B747-467F(SCD) B-HUS B747-444(BCF) B-HVX B747-267F(SCD) B-HVY B747-236F(SCD) B-HVZ B747-267F(SCD) B-HXB A340-313X B-HXC A340-313X B-HXD A340-313X B-HXG A340-313X B-HXH A340-313X B-HXI A340-313X B-HXK A340-313X B-HXL A340-313X B-HXM A340-313X B-HXN A340-313X B-HXO A340-313X

Thanks for your reply Grahame.
As I said, I have been running acars for a few years now and have never ever picked up Cathay. I just thought they were like Virgin Blue and did not use acars. I will monitor 131.45 tomorrow on the times I know Cathay flights come through my airpsace which I will be able to monitor on my SBS Basestation radar. Friday usually see's three Cathay flight pass over me, one A330 and two A340's. I will let you know how I go. Cheers, Dave. |
