Question Rff Red To Category 8

I notice on ATIS at the moment "RFF RED TO CATEGORY 8". Does that mean staffing and or equipment problems with the fire service, and what implications does it have for arriving a/c - does it impose restrictions on them or force diversions?

Usually is there are not enough staff on standby in the FCC the catagory has to be reduced.

For example, if 2 tenders are off dealing with a fire alarm/first aid call, then the ARFF usually reduce to Cat 6 (I think).

The Cat 8 could have been for them being a guy or 2 down for some reason (sick/injury). I don't know the details of this occurance.

Aircraft that are "Cat 9" or "Cat 10" have to be advised and it's up to the Captain if they continue approach or depart. I have yet to see someone hold, divert or even delay their departure for something like that. I'm sure it happens sometimes though.

YBBN was category 7 earlier, does that mean they're missing some staff too?
