The local radio stations have started broadcasting that "The worlds biggest plane is coming at 3pm" with some audio from a bloke from Australian Aerospace telling everyone where to get the best look at it - that should cause some nice traffic chaos.

What annoys me about this, as per the United diversion article, where journalists get things terribly wrong, why then does someone in the aviation industry who we can trust, also get it terribly wrong !!!
AS i said before this is the 3rd time the AN 225 was expected to come to Brissie and it didnt. |

The radio stations had everyone abit confused up here, they were still saying a 3pm arrival after it ad already landed at about 2pm, there were a few annoyed or disappointed poeple at the loop rd when security came around and informed everyone.

^ Are you sure Montague? I'm sure I've seen it before although on reflection, it may have been in NZ. and yes, I do know the difference between a 124 and a 225)

I saw it in Perth, mind you - it was back in 1989.

Are you sure Lee? Do you have a date or photos ?
I've lived in Perth since January 1988 and my extensive Database of visitors to Perth airport doesn't show an AN225 coming here. I've also cross checked my Database to GW's excellent DVD records (dating back to 1944) and there's no AN225 there either. We've had numerous Russian AN124s, IL76s and other exotics over the years including the Beriev BA40 jet powered flotplane on 15 November 1992. Perhaps you were thinking of that one ? |

It's probable that my memory is jaded (too many aircraft and places) - I can remember that I took photos of what ever it was climbing out of Perth from the top of Allendale Square on the Terrace. I thought it was a 225 - having some doubt cast on my memories of it - it could have been a 124 .
I'll see if I can find my pics....... |
