Could Air India not consider a triangular route including both SYD and MEL like PR or MK?

The Age: Direct India flights nearer

Hi All,

Why doesn't QF ops SYD-BOM or Delhi via MEL service.
Both Sydney and Melbourne have a large population of Indians, who would travel.
According to Great Circles it is under 8,000 nm which is within range of a A332 or even a 3 times weekely service with B744, if cargo space is required to make it cost effective?

What about ops to LHR via BOM or Delhi??

Stuart

Stuart,

QF tried SYD-BOM-SYD with A332's and stopped (Can't remeber why they stopped, I think due to a bombing at a hotel, I could be wrong). The did SYD-DRW-BOM-SYD with A333's as well before they go the A332's.

They tried SIN-BOM with all the connections from Australian cities in SIN, and failed.

Hi Stefan, I actually went on that flight you specified (SYD-DRW-BOM) in about 2005 (I think) but we just went to Darwin.
Any idea what the FLT no. was? I know from memory it left about 10-11 am. And I was wandering what happened to that flight, and now I know.
