No, permanent repairs as in LAX would've made temporary repairs to enable the aircraft to ferry back to SYD... SYD will make permanent repairs to restore the aircraft to its pre-collision state.

There is no way in hell that QF would be storing OEI Adam, the frame is 11yrs old and recently refreshed both in and out...they would not retire it as the winglet is damaged, a replacement will probably be taken off OJC which I believe is in the process (or will shortly be in the process) if de-commissioning!

Hi All,

Why would Qantas retire OEI?
They just announced last week that all 747-400ER's would be kept, and the non ER's retired early.

OEI just needs a simple winglet change - unless the wing was damaged beyond repair, they wouldn't be wrtiting it off.

Default Yes, I saw Qantas B747-400 in hanger

As I was in Qantas A380 (VH-OQA)on QF12 on 1st March to go home during taxing to the runway on west side of LAX Airport and I saw that Qantas B747-400 was stabled in the hanger. I sat on seat 71A and the flight was very good as smooth but there were some bumpy. Hope, it is interest you all.

Regards,

Cliff Cook.

VH-OJC left last night for NRT. It is helping out with the flying whilst OEI is being repaired.

VH-OQI should fly today after being repaired.

Not quite a simple winglet Sarah. The next panel in was damaged too. Quite a big job to remove, repair and install it.
