OJR is to be white tailed.
Does this suggest the aircraft has been bought?

Will we ever see a 747-400 given to the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach since they are on the retirement run (some at least)?

I wouldn't see much point Dave. The 747-400 hasn't really been that much more pioneering than the 747-200. And there isn't exactly thaaaat much room left out there either. Certainly not enough to put another 747.

Tell you one thing though, driving through Longreach the other day, I noticed poor old EBQ is looking sad paint wise!

When I was in LRE in feb, I was told they just got a grant for $10,000 just to paint the tail!, so im assuming it would be done soon.

Karl is right - they have the bill and are keen to repain EBQ but the other project they have going (the Flying Boat I think) has been the priority. Once that project is complete and paid for, the tail will be next.

Personally I would love to see a 767 join the Museum but the lack of space is an issue.

Thank you Mick, Karl and Sarah. Yes, EBQ is in need of a repaint, especially the tail. I too would like to see a 767 out at Longreach or a 744 (OJA would be nice). I guess I will have to have some wishful thinking...

I see on the Boeing website that VH-OJR becomes available in October 2010 for sale.

Does anyone know if it will be withdrawn from service at that time...

Regarding aircraft being stored, just wondering if there are specific reasons for removing / covering titles and logos. Is it only done for aircraft that are being sold?

It will be parked / removed from service most probably when it is due for its next check. ie When the hours and or cycles run out.

They paint out the tail / logos etc when it is no longer in the ownership of the company. For example if they chop it up or it flies somewhere and crashes it is no longer associated with the company. These are not pictures you want in the media.
