Working against United is the travel commitments it faces next week. It flies to Brisbane and tackles the Queensland Roar on Friday night before setting off for Tashkent, via Singapore, on the weekend.

The team is scheduled to arrive in Uzbekistan early Monday morning.
Tashkent Airport doesn't seem to have any direct services to Singapore, so there will likely be another transit point, or it's a charter.

FYI, Andy Harper informed Fox Sports viewers that Adelaide Untied would be flying Business class all the way to Tashkent courtesy of the FFA, reinforcing the FFA's commitment to the Asian Champions League.

For what it's worth, it appears Adelaide United's routing was as follows:

Brisbane-Singapore (Singapore Airlines)*
Singapore-New Delhi (Air India)
New Delhi-Tashkent (Uzbekistan Airways)#

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...-12428,00.html

*Singapore Airlines isn't mentioned in the article, but I assume this as Air India code shares on this 9.30am BNE-SIN flight and while watching the game between Queensland Roar and Adelaide United last Friday night, the commentators mentioned the players needed to leave their hotel at 7.00am the following morning for their flight from Brisbane.

#Uzbekistan Airways' website doesn't show them as flying New Delhi-Tashkent. Does anyone know if Adelaide United's flight was a charter?

I recently went to Uzbekistan (SYD-BKK-TAS and return). Given HY have direct flights from KUL, BKK, ICN, NRT etc to Tashkent, they could have done a much more direct routing than that... You would think in the interests of player fatigue, you would get the most direct routing possible!

I thought that too, but without looking at the timetables in too much detail, it may be a connection timing issue with overnighting maybe necessary out of BNE to TAS via a direct connecting port like KUL, ICN, BKK etc. Also in order for Adelaide United to arrive back directly into Adelaide, SQ may have been the best option, hence the outbound also SQ. Which then meant that via India was the best option?

A quick check on Expedia for BNE-TAS flights on an upcoming Saturday (same day of the week travel as they went) shows all BNE-TAS services with two stops with flight durations of between 29 and 44 hours, so maybe they had no other choice?
