Perhaps as we are (slightly) off topic, this could be a topic on the Spotting Weekend? A demonstration on different techniques to editing?

That way, the younger guys, or those of us a little older (not necessarily wiser either), can learner a little more in a practicle way?

Brad, a great collection of images there, and learning along the way tells a story - Well done!

We certainly have some talented aviation photographers both locally and interstate and I'm sure with a laptop or two handy they could offer some useful insights to getting that perfect shot looking even better. But we've got to get the Spotting Weekend off the ground first!

There was a topic on photo editing techniques posted here 2 years ago http://www.yssyforum.net/board/showt...ight=photoshop

And in particular was this post by the highly esteemed Craig Murray detailing his use of Photoshop for editing shots http://www.yssyforum.net/board/showp...52&postcount=5

I still refer to this topic on the odd occasion for a quick refresher myself.

Thanks for those links Nigel, I personally like to watch and learn, being a visual person myself, I will go and have a refresher look myself!!

I have not long retired Craig's 80-400mm lens oddly for the 50-500!!

This is pretty off topic,
I checked 16.right cargo and it doesn't say when Fedex and UPS planes depart,
is it just random or are the scheduled?
thanks.

If you use the 'search' function along the top toolbar and type in FedEx or UPS, I'm pretty sure there are schedules located somewhere there. I know it's been brought up previously, but you'll just have to do a bit of digging.

Stefan Kuhn also has his editing guide here which has screenshots along the way, It's done in Photoshop CS2 but everything he uses is fairly universal from Photshop 5 onwards.

Chris, I've found that moving the tone curve around has and equal, if not better effect than just the black slider. By moving the Highlights to +100, the Shadows and Darks to -100 and then playing with the Lights slider between +40 thru +80, I seem to be able to get a better range to see the dust spots.

And then when you've finished, just reset all the sliders to 0 - nothing to remember.

When I first started using Photoshop I used Stefan Kuhn's guide that David posted all the time, until I knew all the required steps. It really is a great way to learn the ropes when it comes to aircraft photos.

Lee and Chris, I generally use the exposure, blacks and contrast sliders to improve the contrast, and when that doesn't have the desired effect, I then turn to curves.
