...
Some people are unsure for what this event is about. The event is about Australian airlines farming off jobs overseas, subverting legally negotiated EBAs and the terms and conditions within them.

EG Jetconnect - pilots are being paid 40% less than their Oz counterparts, with NO super, to fly the same machines in the same colours. Now Jstar basing A330's in Singapore and also trying to hire in a NZ offshoot for a lot less.

This doesn't affect you?

Recently a whole group of pilots in GA and Regionals, having been given a start date with JStar in Oz, all gave their months notice to their companies’ as anyone would do. JStar then did a back flip and cancelled their course with a few weeks to go. The people involved had to go back to their companies’ hat in hand asking to keep their jobs for a little longer until JStar sort themselves. This has affected the pilots promotions, payment of bypass pay etc etc etc. Now here's the worst part. To top it all off, since cancelling the course, JStar have now been in contact with these same pilots, offering them jobs in NZ for MUCH less.

Now ask yourself - Why is the future of Australian airlines (your jobs) based solely on the subversion of hard earned terms and conditions fought hard for here in Australia?
For too long now, pilot terms and conditions in this country have been sliding backwards. Partly because Australian pilots have never really united to try and beat the worsening conditions. Well, maybe now is our chance. There will also be media coverage of this event.

Cheers

Mick

Outcome of today's meeting:

http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-...823-13i9y.html

Apparently, as all media things are, there are little inaccuracies in the report. The main one being, there was no talk of "a strike tomorrow".

None the less, a historic and very very important step in finally stopping the slide in pilot pay and conditions. Most importantly though, a step towards hopefully stopping foreign workers taking Australian jobs.

Cheers

Mick

my guess would be that this is the way the "budget" carriers will staff overseas flights....
instead of using Australian crews to do Mel - Singapore and beyond, very clever to open base in Singapore and use their crews
yes, you are right, pay and conditions are entirely different and reading the numerous forums, there are ALWAYS complaints about the inept crews the budget carriers use on their long haul and Asia flights (cabin) and always complementing Aust crews.....
Worry is the standards in Asia will filter thru to australia....
profit before people until there are no more people on their fkights then they wake up!
