Double Emergencies this morning
G'day all
In far flung Broken Hill this morning, I overheard on Melbourne Centre of two emergencies that were occurring at Sydney, and that a Hazard alert was issued for at least an hour of delays. I'm just curious to know what these emergencies occurred. Haven't really seen or heard much in the media. We were heading the other way, so we're left hanging to hear the end of the dramas occurring. Thanks for any info |

Sydney suffered very heavy rain (over a short period of time) this morning.
This included the Mascot area |

Would this warrant an emergency though?

The hazard alert was issued because delays were up to 60 minutes, which is in excess of the published holding requirements. The delays resulted mostly because of the weather.

I was flying in on QF22 and they mentioned a "medical emergency on another aircraft" that affected our approach.

Were they emergencies you heard Maikha? Or simply the Hazard Alerts?

Mick, I recall the centre controller issuing the Hazard Alert, delays into Sydney of 60mins DUE TO the two emergencies that were declared. I didn't hear the emergencies themselves, considering where we were, but from what I understood, the hazard alert was due to them, and not the heavy rain that was happening as well.
But I could be wrong or heard it incorrectly, hence why I came along here to ask to see if anyone knew so our curiosity could be relieved |

I read somewhere else the China Southern A380 had a medical situation which looked like diverting to BNE so that might be the flight.
