Default QF8 LAX diversion (Aug1)

Just looking on www.planefinder.net it looks like QF8 VH-OEI has diverted to LAX. Currently looks like it is over at the west remote parking. Anyone have any info? Nadi or Auckland is the usual stop with strong winds, so I doubt this is a refuelling stop.

Not sure why this is. Routing will be DFW-LAX-AKL-BNE-SYD according to the QF site.

dep DFW 2202 arr LAX 0041
dep LAX 0144 due in AKL 0850
due out AKL 1100 due in BNE 1235
due out BNE 1335 due in SYD 1510

All in local time

Could be weather related - isn't there some sort of Hurricane off the coast that is developing? I note on the Dallas news there are 'excessive heat warnings' so maybe that might have something to do with it too.

You're probably right there Sarah. Maybe with the heat (it's currently 33C at 4am!), they were weight restricted and found it easier to just go to LAX and refuel. Not sure why it is going through Auckland though, when the Brisbane and even Sydney and Melbourne 747 flights are going direct.

Qantassource said it was a likely medical divert into LAX and as they were about to depart the crew would have run out of hours before BN so they went to AKL instead where a fresh crew were waiting for the rest of the legs.
