I have been away for a week and needed to check information to answer this question.

There are 38 aircraft in Virgin Australia livery, 9 were repainted from Virgin Blue and 1 from V Australia. 28 have come from basic white or are new deliveries.

Virgin Australia has indicated that over the 18 months from January 2012 to June 2013, there will be 29 aircraft delivered - 17 x 738 [4 already delivered], 4 x A330 [1 delivered] and 8 x ATR72 [2 delivered], so there are to be 22 new deliveries which will wear the Virgin Australia livery.

This means at least 60 in Virgin Australia livery without any repaints.

Virgin Australia has advised that 14 x 737 aircraft will retire in this period. In 2012, there have been 3 x 73G retirements so far [VBH, VBI, VBN]. Thus 11 more will be retired in this period, without definite knowledge of the specific aircraft.

It has been mooted that VOD will go in 2 months, and up to six of the older 73G which remain in the fleet may be retired. Only 4 of the 73G are younger aircraft. This would leave at least 5 possible 738 aircraft to retire. These retirements are speculative.

Regardless of which aircraft are retired, there are 15 Embraer 190 to be repainted and a total of 44 x 737 types in red livery. So this becomes 33 x 737 to be repainted and 15 Emb 190 plus 4 x 777 aircraft, making 52 to be ultimately repainted.

There is an expectation that the Embraer 190 aircraft will have a refurbishment program, but it is not known if repainting will occur at this time.

So in answer, by June 2013, there will be at least 60 aircraft in new livery and whatever of the 52 remaining aircraft can be achieved in the next 14 months.

One might speculate one per month [14 more done], so the number might be about 74 total.

John Borghetti has indicated that rebranding by repaint will occur at a steady pace as required by maintenance and operational requirements, rather than a rapid rebranding at unnecessary cost.

Anyone who can refute or confirm anything here is most welcome to clarify the plans.

Any chance that VPH might be in Sydney on Wednesday?

Does anyone know when the first ATR72-600 is due?
