Default Large loud military jet- thursday 29july 6pm

Can anyone tell me what large jet may have been flying toward Richmond RAAF on Thursday night approx 6.30pm? I live in northwestern sydney, and the noise sounded like a fighter, but the shape was too large, and the noise lasted too long- it was not a c130.

sorry for the delay- been away! thanks for the interest.
possibly a c17, but we're used to them and this one seemed bigger and louder.
wondered if a C5 Galaxy had come back. Ive seen them at Richmond before, but its been a few years ago now.

I heard the noise as well in Berowra, and I realized it came from Richmond.
I think it was just to loud for a C-17 and it lasted to long!

Was a B-1B here? Saw one years ago in Brize Norton, I was so happy to always carry earplugs with me. The VC-10 was quiet compared to the old Rockwell...

F-18- sounds right to me , I assumed it was a fighter jet.

i could be wrong, but i really dont think it was an f18. my kids saw the sillouette, and they said it was big.(they are plane savvy, if it was an f18 they would know- spend huge amounts of time on flight simulator!) also, the noise lasted too long- an f18 making that amount of noise would have been gone in seconds. I guess this one is just another unknown.

2 years after retirement, the 707s are still parked there.

I have not seen a C5 in sometime. Usually a mate tells me if they are coming in but nothing recent. Just one or two USAF C17s a week, often through on Sunday/Monday, then to Alice and back on Wednesday/Thursday.
