Default Alliance Fokker 50 (VH-FKW) at Sydney today

Hi all

Spent this morning practicing whatever photography I could with today's overcast weather, and surprisingly, a quick trip to McDonalds to get breakfast I came past VH-FKW sitting at DOM-5 outside the Execujet offices.

A listen on the scanner showed that it was 'Unity 861' going out to Bourke (?) if I recall correctly. Anyhow, made my way to the mound and successfully got shots of the aircraft taxiing and then departing on Runway 34L at about 0954. It'll be sometime before I can get the shots up as again, I've run out of bandwidth on my web hosting!

However some queries have me very curious!

*Why? (Was it in Sydney, and more importantly, why Bourke?)
*Is 'Unity' the general callsign for all Alliance aircraft? I recall hearing alot of Unity callsigns when I was listening to the frequencies in Adelaide
*What facilities would there be at DOM-5 for passenger loading as opposed to the main Domestic terminals? I assume that this was a charter of some form like the Strategic flights.

Second time I've seen an airbourne Fokker 50, the other being in Adelaide. Didn't really expect to see the same one in my hometown!

All in all, was a very productive morning, followed by some contrasting, but equally captivating Gliding I did out at Camden.

Thanks all!

They have been doing charter flights out to Lake Eyre with the F50 (via Bourke) ex BNE so prob the same deal ex SYD.

Yes Unity is the normal Alliance c/s.

Just a friendly hint with the gliding...limit the amount of photography you attempt when thermalling...you might get very sick very quick!

As Radi said, "Unity" is the standard callsign for Alliance. They tend to carry out alot of mining charter contracts. One they have recently picked up is YBBN-YORG-YBAS-YTEF on Wednesdays and YTEF-YORG-YBNE Thursdays, they are operating a F100 on this route. I believe it's a contract with Newcrest mining who have gold mines in Orange and Telfer.
So my guess is they are operating a charter for a mine at Bourke and Lake Eyre.
I'd love to get some shots of a F50.
Matt
