First LATAM Service To Sydney Airport
It was a #VividSydney this morning to welcome the first new livery LATAM B789 Dreamliner, which was only delivered from Boeing on 13th May 2016. LATAM
is the new airline formed from a merger of LAN and TAM, and their respective subsidiaries. With the head office in Santiago, Chile, LATAM operates passenger flights out of South America, Central America, North America and the Caribbean, Europe and Oceania with a total of 135 destinations in 23 countries. Having a look a look through the usual places it appears the other LATAM airlines have small flags just behind the cockpit windows identifying the country the aircraft is registered and therefore airline which is operating the flight, (its my understanding that each previous legal entity still exists, they now have common branding and a common booking engine along with other back office functions).
I haven't seen this on any of the Chilean registered aircraft though. Any ideas why? Cheers M

Only thing I can think of is that LAN Chile, pre the LATAM days, was the 'primary' LAN airline, so maybe it was kind of a 'if it has a flag, it's that country; if not, it's Chile'?

With three LATAM livery B789 Dreamliners now in the LAN fleet, we are starting to see regular visits by these new livery aircraft. B789 Dreamliner
CC-BGK and CC-BGL were delivered from Boeing in the LATAM livery, however CC-BGA has been re-painted in the LATAM livery after being delivered in LAN livery only 16 months ago. CC-BGK is seen here landing on Sydney Airport Runway 34R, after its flight from Santiago via Auckland. The Santiago-Auckland sector is 13hr 25min, and the Auckland-Sydney sector 3hr 12min in duration. Watch The Video (60 Seconds)

The Australian Business Traveller has advised today that LATAM is commencing non-stop services from Sydney to Santiago three days per week from November, 2019 by reducing the Auckland stop to four services per week.

I do enjoy the QF codeshared flights to and from Auckland on LA, so much so that I only flew VA (gold status) or LA to AKL prior to this trip. Ended up on QF145 on the way over on Sunday afternoon. It seems to beg the question how long QF will persist with the B744 on the SYD-SCL route now, especially considering their oneWorld alliance member is doing direct on a B789 three times a week. They would be smart to run a B789 on the days that LATAM is not going direct from a fuel perspective alone. |
