Newlyweds walk away from Bringelly light plane crash

October 18, 2008 11:22am

TWO newlyweds have walked away from a light plane crash that left the aircraft badly damaged.

Though injured, the couple, both aged 26, were able to get free of the wreckage after the plane came down in a paddock in Sydney's west.

It clipped a tree shortly before 9am (AEDT) today and crashed off Northern Road in Bringelly, near Camden.

"The plane apparently got extensively damaged," an ambulance service spokesman said.

"The district officer at the scene said there was a fairly nasty wreck and it was amazing that they managed to walk out of the plane.

"Apparently they'd just come back from their honeymoon.

"The male was the pilot - part of the deal was to go on this flight, and then this happened."

The couple had minor head injuries and some neck pain.

The man had a possible fractured ankle, and the woman was suffering abdominal and back pain, the spokesman said.

The couple were taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment and scans for further injuries.

"Because it was such a solid impact, there can also be underlying internal injuries that you can't see that need further deeper scans in hospital," said the spokesman.

The plane remains in the paddock, where it will be inspected by aviation authorities.
Well, if they can survive that, then they can survive anything!

Grahame is the timestamp on that ACARS log local?
Report says this accident occurred just before 0900 - which means it's unlikely to be the same one.

Hi Adam, the timestamp in the log is local Sydney ie. 18/10/2008 07:18 so this is before the time reported in the news article.

Knowing the media, "shortly before 9am" could mean 7:18 am, and the aircraft probably belonged to Qantas and clipped a Qantas bus heading to Camden airport to pick up passengers from a Qantas A330 that made an emergency landing there earlier that day.

Grahame, it was actually an Australian Airlines B787 that made the emergency landing and it was at The Oaks, not Camden.

No wonder the media often get it so wrong!

Default Exclusive photos!

Here's an exclusive photo of the Qantas aeroplane, after its emergency landing at The Oaks, near Camden. Note lots of parts have fallen off (like the engines). Maybe this was the cause of the emergency (ie the engines fell off).

Sorry for the quality!

Then again, it's got a kangaroo on the tail, maybe it's actually an Australian Airlines aeroplane, and Nigel is right for once.

If SMH is right, which is quite unlikely and this Pilot was only a GFPT pilot as they say according to a man from Red Baron then the pilot has made one brilliant landing in that field for his experience.
Didnt another red baron go down near the Bringelly area about a year back?

In other news a Cathay Australian pilot has stolen from a Macdonalds card machine in Hong Kong- he was becoming a first officer- apparently he was hungry for some command time!

Could it of been the QF plane declaring a Pan-Pan this morning around the same time ?

Cheers
Mark
