Latest piece on Fleetbuzz Editorial about a subject I believe is fast becoming the industry's number one speculative talking point.

As Boeing follows Airbus’ lead to increase 737 production, the focus is not just on the fact that the increase will commence over a year later than the increase earmarked for the A320 family, but that there is a feeling that the rate rise could be a double-edged sword - but not in the traditional sense.
By accelerating deliveries from 2012 onwards, it could well be that Boeing passes over the re-engine strategy altogether and looks to a clean sheet design instead, which would leverage better fuel burn savings with the fuel efficient engines being promoted in the GTF and LEAP-X.
