As voted by Facebook, VH-YFF will be named 'Wineglass Bay'! It begun its delivery flight yesterday, so should be delivered to BNE tomorrow.

From that link
"the aircraft is routing HNL-NAN-CHC for mods with air nz"

For the life of me, I cannot understand why a brand new aircraft has to get mods done before it even enters service....... I have seen it so many times, and just cant work it out..... This one was painted in new colours, delivered to new entity, yet still needs mods.... Can anyone explain why?????... Its not just VA it seems many airlines do the same thing. A pre delivery check should be all that is required.

Simple Mark, many airlines put in equipment, such as IFE or galley items which are supplied separate to the aircraft build contract. Hence why they often go elsewhere before delivery to have these items fitted.

I would imagine there would be some contractual issues if these airline owned items were fitted before they actually own the aircraft.

The boeing timeline cuts off about 18 months before delivery. That means anything you want changed after this time will either delay your delivery or be required to obtain modification at a third party maintenance provider.

There are many other reasons, cost of installation of some items is cheaper away from Boeing.

Also, Boeing may not have FAA approval to install certain modifications e.g. bars in aircraft etc

The reson certain mods are carried by the airlines is as follows:

A: Boeing do not do these mods as they are customised for the airline.

B: The cost would be a lot greater as boeing builds the basic aircraft to customer specs
