Default Air Thaiti postpones AUS/NZL flights

From http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/bus...1225879854743:

Quote:
A STRIKE by government workers at Tahiti's international airport has grounded flights to and from Australia.

Air Tahiti Nui says the strike by customs officers and emergency fire crews has halted the operation of all wide bodied jets to and from the gateway to French Polynesia.

So far more than 3600 passengers have been stranded in Australia, New Zealand, the US and France and the airline has no indication of when the strike might end.

Air Tahiti Nui's Sunday service from Auckland to Papeete was cancelled, affecting a number of passengers connecting from Australia.

The next service from Australia to Papeete via Auckland is still scheduled to operate on Thursday but a final decision on that flight will be made closer to the time.

For updates, passengers should contact their travel agents, visit www.airtahitinui.com.au or call Air Tahiti Nui reservations in Sydney on 1300 732 415, between 9am and 5pm (AEST) weekdays.

The airline says it will waive all rebooking and cancellation fees and once the strike ends rebook passengers on other flights as soon as possible.
I haven't seen any of their metal in Sydney recently, and correct me if im wrong, aren't they codeshare with Qantas?

Alas we don't get to see the great colours of Air Tahiti Nui in Sydney any more. Passengers fly to Auckland on Qantas aircraft connecting on to Air Tahiti Nui aircraft for the remainder of the journey to Papeete (and v.v.) I was lucky enough to fly with TN on their A340 when they had non-stop flights between Sydney and Papeete. It was a great introduction to French Polynesia.
