Default Plane leaks fuel

http://http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2009/07/11/51195_local-news.html

An Air Niugini flight with 51 people on board from Cairns to Port Moresby left at 12.50pm on friday then made an emergency landing at 1.15pm a fuel leak was the problem. The pilot was advised by air traffic controllers that the engines were venting fuel and the pilot elected to return to Cairns. The plane was fixed at Cairns before it took off again at 2.30pm. These Fokker 100 jets are getting fairly old now they seem to have quite a few mechanical problems of late.

As I've mention many times, it's not so much a matter of the age of the aeroplane, it's the maintenance.

Best guess was too much bang water loded , PX fill up here as its cheaper , so its max fuel in the tanks,

I have seen PX vent before , but as i told the cairns post, never as much as that.

You got a very close up photo of it at Cairns airport Steve. Where abouts at the airport did you take that photo from? As I can only veiw aircraft from MT Whitfield as never found a spot at the airport to photo as always buildings are in the way.

Slightly off topic but it reminds me watching one of those docos on SBS or Discovery which showed an SR-71 Blackbird sitting on the tarmac dripping of JP-7 which it explained was normal at sea level on the ground.

The Concorde used to stink of Jet A1 when it was sitting on the ground too. I was told it had something to do with supersonic flight stretching the aircraft which would then 'seal' the aircraft properly.

Get up close to an F18 sitting on the ground and you need wet weather gear to walk under it.
