What method do you use to record aircraft logged?

Hi all
For those of you who jot down rego numbers on aircraft,just curious as to what methods of recording you may use..eg Do you only log aircraft that you have photographed?Do you have an alphabetical system of logging? Do you log by aircraft type? or do you log by airline?Do you just jot down in a notepad or exercise book? or do you keep your records on your computer hard drive?My system is a bit haphazard at the moment,hopefully I or others indeed may pick up some handy hints.

I basically have all a/c seen on an Excel spreadsheet but you can use Microsoft Access (it has better reporting but takes up a lot of space).

Being a spreadsheet tragic I also have seperate records by type, airport etc.

As a back up I have written 'neat' records by year in off the shelf notebooks.

I also joined Freebird Aviation where u can log sightings, costs money, but you get regular updates so it is always up to date. Not all types are catered for as it is still a work in progress.

I simply use an exercise book on site (listing in chrono order), then transfer to JP Airline Fleets when able...

Personally, I'm not really into recording of regos and the like, and even more so, I wouldn't have a clue as to the history of a certain aircraft if quoted a rego. I do remember specific aircraft by their callsigns, which generally are their registration (VH-NJM, TAO, PDW, IMX, KDK are profound ones I remember!).

However, in the course of my plane spotting and the like, I usually am able to photograph the aircraft and its registration, and thanks to the likes of digital technology, the time and date are stamped on it as well.

Only time I have ever heard a rego as a call sign was when I went for my TIF, in VH-TAV, which I believe has now been exported.

This sort of question has been asked several times before on various forums and I think the most recent was in the Technical Forum in October. If you do a search for "Photo Database" you will see several replies from spotters who use a range of different methods to record what they see and/or photograph.

This comes with regular updates and is up to date most of the time.
