Assuming he had about 24hrs of fuel onboard (roughly 840L's), he was probably in the order of about 400kg's overweight. Only guestimations though.

He must have needed some serious runway length with no obstacles within cooee of the runway end!

Ground effect across the Pacific like the Catalina's in WW2?

I had the pleasure of driving the pilot to his aircraft for departure to Bankstown shortly. He had quite an interesting story on his flight; his longest leg was a total of 26 hours in the cockpit.

Mick, you were right with the fuel...he said he was about 400kg over MTOW, but had FAA approval as it was a ferry flight. He said he still had 750' climb on departure from mainland US at the start of a 14hr totally black night enroute to Hilo.

I didn't ask him about the bladder issue...

The aircraft will be based at Bankstown.

That guy deserves a medal - I use to struggle doing a 3 hour Nav in a C172 (and use to have the student looking for every knot of tailwind to shorten it!), I can't imagine 26 hours!! My physio would certainly be making a killing for a few weeks after that!

Any ideas where it is parked in Bankstown? I wouldn't mind speaking to this guy myself :P

He went from a 26 hour leg to an 20 min leg during this ferry flight

Departed Sydney 16L at 8:40pm and arrived at Bankstown on 11C at 9:00pm.

These small aircraft ferrying pilots have some interesting adventures!
