Default Storms over SE Australia

Have noticed some very strange flightpaths tonight due to storms near Wagga, Canberra and Albury. QF487 SYD-MEL tracked around 100nm off the coast of Bega before turning west towards Melbourne.

Also noticed a very strange ATIS for Canberra, assuming this is due to the storm?

Storms have passed here in Wagga and have moved to the North. Has been the most intense storm I've seen in many years down here!

The evening QLink flight ex-Sydney arrived almost 2hrs late I believe.

Around 5.20pm today a Virgin Australia 737-800 (one of the white variety) took off from 35 in CBR, looked a lot faster than usual, made a (very) immediate right turn to track close to due east, then as it disappeared I noticed it was heading close to due south. Would that have been a CBR-MEL trying to avoid storm cells west of here? Or did I miss something more exciting!?

That would have been VH-YFE as DJ278 CBR-MEL Rowan.

Incidentally does anyone know of any cancellations out of CBR in the morning (Wednesday)? I'm on QF872 on the way to ASP & DRW for work.

Hi Jason. I noted the same. Here's its track with a weather overlay at the time.

A big storm system passed over Canberra a short time ago, the rain was the heaviest I have ever seen (showed on weather radar as a black centre). There is also a lot of lightning activity in the area.

Rowan, with regards to cancellations out of CBR tomorrow, the only one showing is QF1460 at this stage.

Thanks Zac, that's all I could see last night too. 872 is still going as are most except a couple of Dashes to SYD, but also looks like 948 & 951 are cancelled?
