Nikon D7000 or Canon 7D?

Hi everyone more camera savvy than me (read everyone).

Just wanting your thoughts on these two cameras.

First DSLR and not planning a trip to Kuwait.

Want to get into this at a enthusiast level.

I've had Nikon compact cameras before and the wife can work those. But don't have to stick with them.

I don't want to start at entry level then need to upgrade within a year or 2.
