So what did Ansett look like in the 1980s ?

One of the very early Ansett fleet stored at Tullamarine, DC3 "Douglas" VH-ABR in December 1983

DC9-30 VH-CZC in October 1981. The DC9 were a great aircraft to fly in, especially if you were seated on the left of the aircraft. The
seating was 2x3 so there was no middle seat.

DC9-30 VH-CZH in October 1981. The International Terminal fingers were shorted in the early years, the two Qantas B747-200s can
be seen on standoff bays which are now gate lounges.

B727-200 VH-RMU in October 1981

B727-200 VH-RMY in October 1981. I had many great flights on both Ansett and TAA Baoing 727-100 & 200 aircraft. Loved the rear
pressure door and stairway down through the back of the aircraft.

Fokker F28-500F VH-FCC in October 1981 operating for the mainline Ansett operation. Notice that there are no aerobridges at the
International Terminal, I had forgotten about that one.

Fokker F28-500F VH-FCF in October 1981 operating flights to the Sunshine Coast from memory. This was a long way in a Fokker,
although I can remember doing an East West F27 flight from Sydney to Melbourne, something like 3hours with a stop over in Albury to
make it legal under the two airline policy of the day. Only Ansett and TAA could fly Sydney - Melbourne direct. I had a 24hr headache
after sitting in the window seat next to the prop for 3 hrs.

Fokker F28-500F VH-FCF in October 1981 operated by Ansett's Airlines of New South Wales (or Air New South Wales in the later years)

DC9-30 VH-CZD in April 1982 operating by Ansett for Air Vanuatu

And then there was the Southern Cross livery .....

B727-200 VH-ANA in November 1981. I think the VH-ANx series aircraft were a special LR version of the B727 from memory. Normally
the Sydney - Perth flights stopped over to refuel in Adealide on the way over because of the prevailing westerly winds. I think the LR
model could make it without the fuel stop.

B737-200 VH-CZM in November 1981 with the Hilton in the background

B737-200 VH-CZX in November 1982 about to touchdown on Runway 25 with the DC3 mentioned earlier in the background.

B737-200 VH-CZM in March 1986 operated by Ansett for Polynesian

B767-200 VH-RME in September 1983 lining up on Runway 25. I had a few Business Class flights from Sydney to Perth in the Ansett
B767s during the early 1990s, and their product was excellent for the time. Plenty of good cockpit visits back then also, without all of
today's security.

BAe 146-200A VH-JJP in November 1985 seen here in Perth

Fokker F27-400QC VH-FNQ in December 1983 seen here at Tullamarine

Fokker F28-100 VH-FKB in February 1985 operated by Ansett's Air New South Wales. I remember enjoying a few flights from Sydney to
Melbourne in the East West F28s. The integrated front stairs were quite novel.

Lockheed L-188 Electra VH-RMC "Wombat" cargo in December 1983 at Tullamarine. These aircraft operated cargo services up and down
the east coast in the 1980s. I flew in a TAA Electra as a child in the early 1960s and can remember going up to the cockpit and seeing
an osciliscope used to monitor the engines. Funny, I think Sydney - Brisbane only took 1hr 20min back then in the Electra (about the
same today), guess they did not have the traffic and ATC restrictions back then. The flight back was in a TAA Vickers Vicount.
