Default Question about Flightaware??

Hi all,

Just got a bit of a query about Flightaware. I seem to have been getting some info lately that appears not to be correct or a bit inconsistent.
A current example is last night's QF21 ex Sydney which Flightaware still has as 4hrs 30 min to travel when I had a look a few minutes ago,but there is no mention of a diversion or anything else. The map shows the flight route all the way to NRT and timeline shows 0sm left to travel!

When I double checked and had a look at flightstats for QF21 it also said it arrives in 4hrs 30 min but did say it was delayed by 8hrs 55min but that appears incorrect as it appeared on ACARS at 2241 last night right on time. Both Flightaware and flightstats also are showing the departure time as being correct.

This is just one example of some weird info lately and me,not knowing too much about how it all works,I was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on it for me.

Cheers
Jim

P.S. Up until the last week or so most of the info from Flightaware appears to have been spot on.

FlightAware gets its data from the various air traffic control systems around the world, sometimes it isn't perfect.

You might get an answer over at http://discussions.flightaware.com/

I do know that some of the FA staff were in Australia last week, maybe they're working on some new methods of data collection

Thanks Matt for the info and that may well be right.

Its just a bit unusual because usually the data has been extremely accurate.

Cheers
Jim

Jim.

Just to confirm. I did make it to NRT without diversion.

We departed 2 mins early, got here just after schedule.

No idea why FA was so wrong.

Todd.

Thanks Todd,I assumed that was the case.

FA is normally so accurate,it took me by surprise.

Enjoy NRT

Jim
