Default China Airlines schedule change for Sydney and Auckland

Evening all,

China Airlines 4 weekly services to Sydney will now continue onto Auckland from October, thus increasing Auckland to daily services. Brisbane services services remain unchanged at 3 times a week Taipai-Brisbane-Auckland-Brisbane-Taipai.

So they are going back to what they were doing several years ago, which they gave up, presumably due to lack of patronage. Must be some different bean counters in there now.

Makes sense though, uses an A/C that otherwise sits on the tramac for 8 hours.

Do they have traffic rights on the Auckland leg or is it only for passengers from or continuing to Taipei?

Good news for Christchurch...

Reservation for this route opened in the GDS after 0100GMT 08AUG14, however the airline’s website currently is not displaying Christchurch option.

Service from Christchurch operates from 02DEC14 to 01MAR15.

In Northern Winter 2014/15 season, between December 2014 and February 2015, China Airlines’ Australia / New Zealand operation includes the following:
4 weekly Boeing 747-400 Taipei Taoyuan – Brisbane – Auckland
3 weekly Airbus A330-300 Taipei Taoyuan – Sydney – Auckland
4 weekly Airbus A330-300 Taipei Taoyuan – Sydney – Christchurch

CI will make use of their aircraft sending it on to CHC instead of leaving it sitting around in SYD for 11 hours doing nothing. I wonder why they not try for WLG as that city is desperate for its own flight to Asia and they may have picked up a subsidy for starting flights from the NZ capital.

Aren't there issues with aircraft size at WLG though, especially if it was for regular wide-body services?
