60 Minutes tonight - ditching of VH-NGA
On 60 Minutes tonight (7.30pm SYD) there is a segment relating to the ditching of Westwind VH-NGA last year. Preview contains photos of the a/c on the sea bed etc.
Should be interesting to see what comes out of this. |

Should be interesting but given it is 60 Minutes, don't expect it too be too hard hitting. A few interviews with the survivors, but the pilot and the airline management wouldn't be fronting it you wouldn't thing.
I am particularly interested in the images of the aircraft on the ocean floor. |

That's what I thought Adam as I was going to make that point. Just wasn't sure what had been established 'officially'.
The incident was discussed a few times in the press and pretty sure Australian Aviation had a piece on it. |

Video of the aircraft on the ocean floor are available on the ATSB website.
Search for the preliminary investigation. Mick |

Re the images of the aircraft on the seabed... Forgive my ignorance but, how often do pilots ditch in the ocean with gear down?

I believe on the Westwind the gear is held up by hydraulic pressure... no hydraulic pressure, no uplock - so the gear may have been up when they ditched, but then if the hydraulic lines were damaged, they lose pressure and... down come the dangly bits.
That plausible? |
