Default 60 Minutes tonight - ditching of VH-NGA

On 60 Minutes tonight (7.30pm SYD) there is a segment relating to the ditching of Westwind VH-NGA last year. Preview contains photos of the a/c on the sea bed etc.

Should be interesting to see what comes out of this.

Should be interesting but given it is 60 Minutes, don't expect it too be too hard hitting. A few interviews with the survivors, but the pilot and the airline management wouldn't be fronting it you wouldn't thing.

I am particularly interested in the images of the aircraft on the ocean floor.

That's what I thought Adam as I was going to make that point. Just wasn't sure what had been established 'officially'.

The incident was discussed a few times in the press and pretty sure Australian Aviation had a piece on it.

Video of the aircraft on the ocean floor are available on the ATSB website.

Search for the preliminary investigation.

Re the images of the aircraft on the seabed... Forgive my ignorance but, how often do pilots ditch in the ocean with gear down?

I believe on the Westwind the gear is held up by hydraulic pressure... no hydraulic pressure, no uplock - so the gear may have been up when they ditched, but then if the hydraulic lines were damaged, they lose pressure and... down come the dangly bits.

That plausible?
