QF A380 Repositioning Flights?

Qantas do a fair few A380 repositioning flights between Melbourne and Sydney, Why they don't take paying passengers?

How often do they do this now days? I would have thought that with LHR-MEL flights now operating as well as LAX-MEL flights that any repositioning could be done in either LHR or LAX.

The A380 for MEL-LAX comes down to MEL on Wednesdays as QF6017 then heads back up to SYD as QF6018 on Tuesdays.

Not sure about the aircraft used for the LHR runs.

The A380s operate SYD-LHR-MEL-LHR-SYD, so no reposition flights are needed. There are only the 2 flights per week that Dan mentioned.
