XFE is indeed inbound to MEL. ETA 2215L. Direct from TLS. I think JQ VH-EBQ would still be the longest A332 flight, TLS-SYD in Feb 11.

Looks like it's done a lot of extra track miles, so perhaps aiming for the longest flight.

'Manly Beach' looking like its descending into MEL with a total flight duration of 21 hours 18mins as VBH9082. Wow!

Rob maybe it's taken an little extra time to get to MEL due to the earthquake around 9pm tonight? Maybe a detailed inspection of the runway took place and forced aircraft to hold? Just putting it out there.

Just heard about the quake now, so that could have the reason for the scenic flight through SA.

The diversion was to try and get another 200nm track miles to get close to the JQ record, not because of the quake. Flight time was more around 20:35.

Update,

Just read the Facebook page from one of the crew and it looks like they did do the longest flight by around 100nm. Total time from start up to shutdown was 20 hours and 50 mins.

Virgin Australia boosts Rockhampton services

03/07/2012
Virgin Australia today announced an increase in flights to the Rockhampton community, adding almost 1,500 seats per week into the Rockhampton market.

Effective 25 June 2012, services between Rockhampton and Townsville increased from four to six flights per week. The new flights, operating on Mondays and Wednesdays, mean Virgin Australia now offers direct flights between these two important Queensland cities every day of the week, except Saturdays.

From 11 July 2012, the airline will also increase direct flights between Rockhampton and Sydney from four to six per week, delivering direct flights between Rockhampton and Sydney every day of the week, except Saturdays.

From 6 August 2012, the Rockhampton community will also enjoy the benefits of a revised daily flight schedule to Brisbane featuring a new early morning 6.30am departure – more than an hour earlier than the current first flight of the day.

The schedule change will also deliver an increase in direct services between Rockhampton and Brisbane from six to seven flights daily, Monday through Friday, and from five to six flights on Saturday.
“We are pleased to be introducing more choice and convenience as part of our commitment to supporting the highly important Queensland resources and tourism sectors,” Virgin Australia Group Executive - Alliances, Network and Yield, Merren McArthur said.

“A consistent theme in feedback from our customers is that they like to be able to have the broadest possible selection of flights available - and early morning departures are always attractive to business travellers. The support of the community has allowed Virgin Australia to invest further in this growing region”

“From 6 August, the new 6.30am departure from Rockhampton (Monday through Saturday) will arrive in Brisbane at 8.00am and the last flight out of Brisbane to Rockhampton will be 7.45pm; providing plenty of time for same day business trips,” Ms McArthur said.

Further information on Virgin Australia’s flights and fares is available at: http://www.virginaustralia.com/.
