Default PER continues to grow

Hi Folks;

Have just noticed updated June 09 Statistics for PER passenger traffic. By my rough calculations (no press release as of yet) the stats are as follows;

Month on Month increase

June 09;

International 214380 (vs 198667) approx increase 8%

Domestic 559315 (vs 540836) approx increase 3.6%

Not a bad set of results by global standards!

Yes i would expect PER to have highest growth in 2008-2009

BNE growth for the year was 1.3% all up and MEL was 2.1% which both are quite good on a world scale in these economic times.

SYD and ADL yet to be released as well.

It's also good to see some of the smaller airports also doing well. Launceston is up 2% year on year and hit 1.1 million passengers for the first time. This is an additional 19,000 passengers for the year.

I heard that SYD is expecting the worse pax numbers since the pilot strike of 1989 - down around 4%

And I understand that Canberra Airport beat them all by quite a margin (in % growth terms), but the figures aren't released publicly by the Airport - we will have to wait for confirmation of BITRE figures.

Which is absolutely insane for a town with around 15,000 people though what about 10,000 more people are in the town that are fifo. Just a shame we don't have a decent terminal that can actually cope with the passengers going through. Absolutely appalling car park facilities which has been made worse, the only place to park was on the verges and in the gardens which now is impossible because of the stupid bollards they have put up. Barely any seating, made worse when you have Virgin and Qantas on the morning flights, shocking departures area. I'm sure going by the shires track record a new terminal will be years away and the car park they are building will likely just be the surfacing of the overflow which won't help anything or is it going to be totally new?

I think the company's need to contribute to a new terminal but really the shire needed plans 2 years ago not just getting a master plan out now then looking into options, Karratha should have the Bali flight, 80% of people on the plane every weeks seem to be from Karratha anyway.

Off topic but it's just ludicrous we have half a million people coming through an airport a 3rd the size it should be!
