Great photos again Grahame,

Just out of interest, did the Ipec Argosy AW650 VH-IPB burn on the ground in Adelaide. I remember it being parked out from the old (now demolished) domestic terminal, until one day it caught fire. I'm sure Zwecky might be able to answer.

Starting to show my age a bit too, I remember seeing the Ipec DC9 quite regularly in Adelaide and the final sighting was in Honiara in 1996.

Thanks for the memories.

David

Graeme,

They would be F.28-1000s. The F.28-0100 is the Fokker 100.

No Argosy burned at ADL as far as I am aware, and I had many years there, so I seriously doubt it!

Actually Grahame, the Department of Transport & Communications remained but two additional organisations were formed from it, FAC 1 Jan 1988 and CAA 1 July 1988. CAA was further split inro CASA and AirServices in July 1995.

DoT&C became the Department of Transport & Regional Development and has since been Incorporated with other Departments since the last election. However, there is still a aviation division which has roots back to DCA, see -

Good to see there is such a high level of interest in aviation in the 1980s.

I thought I would flip through the Military Album next which brought back memories of visits to Williamtown, Richmond, Sale, Sydney, Tullamarine, Moorabbin and Schofields. There was a good selection of aircraft types and also some of the visitors from overseas.

Here we go ...

RAAF Mirage A3-72 on the flightline at Williamtown in May 1983 - can't imagine them parking a billion dollars worth of aircraft like this
today, but the line of Mirages looks fairly impressive. This was during a visit to Williamtown with the Aeronautical Society when the
Singapore Airforce was there for combat training (some photographs of their aircraft later).

RAAF Mirage 111E A3-2 at the Righmond Bi-Centennial Air Show in October 1988 - normally stationed at Edinborough in SA as part of the
Aircraft Research And Development Unit (ARDU).

RAAF Winjeel CA-25 A85-458 at Williamtown in May 1983 - it looked a little out of place with the Mirages.

Army Nomad N22 A18-309 at Sydney in November 1982 - there was something about the Nomad that I always liked. Taxiing here for
a Runway 25 departure.

RAAF DHC-4 Caribou A4-210 at Richmond in October 1988 - light camouflage colour scheme

RAAF DHC-4 Caribou A4-299 at Richmond in October 1988 - dark camouflage colour scheme.

RAAF PC-9 A23-004 at Richmond in October 1988 - there is a BAC-111 in the background.

RAAF BAC111-200 A12-125 at Richmond in October 19810 - one of the VIP Transport fleet and they used the callsign Envoy back
then also.

RAAF Mystere 20 A11-085 in 1981 - another of the VIP Transport fleet

RAAF DC-3 A65-91 at Essendon in December 1987.jpg

RAAF B707-338 A20-624 at Sydney in July 1990 - there is an Australian Airlines B727-200 in the background.

RAAF B707-338 A20-629 at Tullamarine in 1990 - from memory they were there to have the mid air refueling system fitted (see the
underwing pod).

RAAF B707-338C A20-623 at Sydney in December 1987 - perfectly lined up to look like one aircraft with no cockpit.

RAAF HS748 A10-60x at Sale in April 1984

RAN DC-3 N2-90 at Schofields in November 1985 - I think this was at the air show.

RN Harrier FRS.Mk 1 003 on the HMS Invincible at Garden Island in December 1983 - this was the year after the Falklands War where
the Sea Harrier GR.3 performed brilliantly. The initial 20 Sea Harriers were joined by another 8, 6 were lost through accident or ground fire,
but none were lost in air combat.

RN SRS1 Sea Harrier XZ498 001 at Richmond in October 1988

RAF Tornado F3.Mk 2 ZE728 at Richmond in October 1988

USAF F15 Eagle AF 78-526 at Williamtown in September 1980

USAF Lockheed Starlifter C141 70028 at Richmond in 1982 - a common sight at Richmond as they passed through on their way to
Alice Springs in support of Pine Gap. I finally saw Pine Gap for real when I travelled from Alice to Uluru back in June.

Singapore Air Force Hawker Hunter FGA74S 531 at Williamtown in May 1983 - talking to the Singaporean Hunter Pilots, they were really
proud to have gun camera footage from one of their aircraft with a RAAF Mirage in the sights, not easy to do and probably just a little
lucky. The pilot of this aircraft went through the full engine start procedure with me and covered many of the systems.

SAF Hawker Hunter T75 536 at Williamtown in May 1983 - the twin seat T75 is used for training and the pilots sit side by side.

SAF F5-E Tiger 801 at Williamtown in October 1983

SAF F5-E Tiger 811 at Williamtown in October 1983

US Navy Orion P-3C 150227 from the US Naval Oceanographic Office at Sydney Qantas Jet Base in November 1982 - note the Road Runner
logo near the nose.

USAF King Air 200 60172 at Sydney in December 1982

USAF Starlifter C-141 at Richmond in November 1985 - I think they called this the lizard colour scheme.

Papua New Guinea Denence Force Nomad N22 P2-016 at Richmond in October 1988

BAe Hawk 100 ZA101 at Richmond in October 1988

Great photos again Grahame. Some of these military ones are even better than the civilian ones! Was there an airshow at Richmond in 95? I remember going to one and walking through the Galaxy but not sure what year and it cant have been 88 because i wasn't alive but 95 rings a bell?
