Mona Vale Hospital - New Helipad
Over the last couple of months, construction of the new helipad at Mona Vale has been underway. Last monday evening the helipad lighting was turned on, presumably for testing, and all the pad markings have now been painted. This new helipad is much larger then the old one, which was closer in towards the hospital, and not in a great location. The new pad is more out in the open and on slightly higher ground, giving the pilots a much better approach. The windsock is also illuminated at night, with a red light on top, and white lights on the sock itself.
A permanent fence will need to be constructed around the pad as there is a dog park between it and the beach. The old "Helicopter Landing Area" sign is still there, so you can see how much closer the pad was to the hospital. The approach is normally from the east over the beach or along the golf course. The Hospital overlooks Mona Vale Beach iPhone image of the lighting test earlier in the week. Not sure if this can be activated from the approaching chopper.

Thanks for the photos Grahame.
Brings back some nice memories as No1 daughter was born at Mona Vale Hospital in 1986 and I spent some anxious hours strolling through the grounds whilst my wife was in labour. Cheers Bob |

Big co-incidence Bob, my first daughter was also born in Mona Vale Hospital in 1986, as were my two sons in 1989 and 1996. I remember climbing through the building while it was being constructed in the early 1960s, no OH&S to deal with back then, and we all survived.

Hi Grahame
Gee, it's a small world. Perth is a great place to live but the Northern Beaches run a very close second. If there was a big airport nearby it would jump to the top of my rankings. Cheers Bob |

Hi
I had this Helipads.org link in my favourites for sometime, when I last looked it hadn't been updated. That may have finally changed. http://www.helipads.org/site/index.c...agemode=indiv# |

Thanks for the link David, I had not seen it before, and it is quite comprehensive.
