There are some amazing photos in here, and a detailed description on how it all comes together... Boeings Big Dream

Thanks Bernie, thats great!

One question, photo 21 states "28 quart oil tank" what does that translate to in english?

Paul McFarlane 24th April 2008 10:40 AM

Mark,

28 quarts is 7 gallons (approx. 26.5 litres)..

Cheers

Paul

28 quarts

hi Mark,

The U S gallon is smaller than the imperial gallon
Therefore if my high school maths (boy that was a long time ago) are correct

1 us gallon = .84 imperial gallon
28 us quarts = 7 us gallons = 5.8 imperial gallons
5.8 imperial gallons x 8 pints per gallon = 46.4 imperial pints OR
23.2 imperial quarts.

These figures are close enough without being exact and I stand to be corrected by any board member whose maths are better than mine.

Loved it -- Pic 37 HUD

I notice on Picture 37 that the Captain has a HUD (Head's up display). Great innovation. I wonder when they will be on my car?

Adrian B 24th April 2008 12:31 PM

Already is I think, Isnt there a HUD projection in a Honda of speed and revs?

Paul McFarlane 24th April 2008 12:47 PM

...and the Nissan Pulsar SSS had one for speed 10 years ago or so...

Mark Grima 24th April 2008 12:47 PM

Thanks guys! All I can say is that it is a bloody big oil tank!

Cheers

And because the composite skin doesn't corrode the way aluminum does, airlines can increase the cabin humidity to more comfortable levels.
Hmm wait until the pax start getting showers..... (water falling from the roof due to to much moisture. It happens a lot)

The DC10 and MD11 seems to have a problem with condensation. I remember when I used to fly on these there would be showers, usually of fairly dirty water on almost every approach.

The moisture in the air would condense on the inside of the fuselage due to the cold air outside at cruise altitude. When the aircraft started descending, the water would start moving around and suddenly start dripping out of the overhead panels.

I actually got two airlines to pay for dry-cleaning of my suit as a result of some of these showers, and it seemed to be a problem that was well known to the ground staff.
Presumably, with the B787 they will find a way to avoid this issue, or the airlines will have to prepare for those old days all over again...

That was great to watch. Shame it has been delayed the anticipation is awful.
