Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) is reportedly set to expand, with prospective plans to revive flights to and from Sydney and add Melbourne to its network.

According to reports, the expansion will also involve a fleet update and comes as new chief executive Robert Yang takes the reins.

The carrier’s ageing B767 fleet will be replaced with new B777s by mid-2010 and 787 Dreamliners by late 2013 and 737-800s from 2011.

Royal Brunei could also potentially be back in Sydney and Melbourne by 2011.

e-Travel Blackboard attempted to contact Royal Brunei for comment but they were unreachable as of publication

Jarden, How many times a week do they fly to Perth these days? I assume they will use the 777 on the Perth services when they get them?

Adam W 3rd December 2009 10:12 PM

They currently fly 5 times a week to Perth using mostly A320s with the occasional B767 or A319.

They just serve Brisbane and Perth at the moment, they use to fly to Darwin a while back. Be cool if they could fly to all the main capitals eg BNE, SYD, MEL, ADL and PER

And they fly into BNE 10 times a week. All flights are B763's
BWN-BNE-AKL-BWN, four times a week (Mon,Wed,Fri,Sun)
BWN-BNE-BWN, three times a week (Tue,Thu,Sat)
BWN-AKL-BNE-BWN, three times a week (Wed,Fri,Sun)

Sadly I believe they have left it too late and missed the boat, Air Asia X with other south east asian airlines and Emirates killing them at present.

There load factors are dwindling and with very little advertising and poor marketing will see this airline continue to struggle.

They had two B777s procured with one fully painted in the USA, the other sat idle at Changi for months and as a result both aircraft flew to Canada for re-fits and are now in-service with Transaero.

Perth recieves all three types on services from Brunei at present.

Cheers Greg

Hi Lloyd

That's a little over 10 weeks away.

Do you know where the 777s are coming from as I presume they're second hand from somewhere?

Brunei seems to have a lot of hiccups getting 777s into service as I only read two weeks ago that a deal for three 777s had fallen through and that Thai would take them. Perhaps that report was incorrect.

An earlier attempt to introduce 777s also fell through so it will be interesting to see what transpires this time.

SQ have a number of 777's for sale/hire and or lease!

Bob C 13th April 2010 11:13 PM

Thanks Brian ; I thought that would be the obvious source and hopefully we will get confirmation or not.

Planning and training must be also be well underway if a June 25 start up is to be met.
