Indeed a BIG PR exercise for Qantas to shift the blame from Qantas back to RR.

While it's an accurate portrayal of what happens it's PR101...

RR don't need to say anything to the public.

99.9% of the public don't care. As long as RR keep Qantas, Singapore and every other airline happy that uses their engines then they have zero interest in the public.

Yes, good PR. However, the crew who were responsible also did well beyond a stellar job! I don't blame Qantas for using this opportunity to show the immense experience, talent and leadership shown by Captain de Crespigny and his crew.

Maybe they need to show his face on their safety video's as the face of the airline, rather than a guy who other than flying around in a jet painted in old QF colours and the odd bit of promotion, has nothing to do with the airline, .

So, Alan and co, are you taking note?

If you want to keep your crews with experience, talent and leadership that you continually harp on about having in the airline, then best you listen and act upon what they really have to say in their EBA talks.

Cheers

Mick & Paul - Agree totally!

This is a perfect example of two very experience pilots made all the right decisions!

As per a comment in the documentary, I wonder what would have happened with a "new recruit" with less experience!

For that reason I stick to full service carriers in nearly every single flight that I take.

Unfortunately that is only going to get harder and harder into the future, the brutal oil price at the moment is not going to help anything, but I am getting off-topic now!

A well made documentary which was easily watched by those not involved in aviation!

9.5/10

Andrew,

Yeah I re-read your comments after posting and I realised I had probably taken them out of context. I looked into editing to see if I could delete it but I couldn't and just decided to leave it as was, because I firmly believe what I wrote. They probably weren't accurate/relevant for your post though. Sorry.

I will, however, put it to you that the airlines and regulators are very 'liberal' in determining the required standard of 'competence'.
