Default Impulse Airlines... status of IP?

Quick and random question... wondering if anyone knows the current state of play of the intellectual property from the final Impulse Airlines branding, ie the blue fuselage, yellow writing and cockatoo tail? Did the IP rights transfer to Qantas along with the physical assets? If so, does QF still hold the rights? Or have the rights expired?

Thanks!

I'm not on the inside but I would expect that when Qantas bought Impulse they would have included all intellectual property such as branding etc. The other strong possibility could have been that as part of the deal, the seller kept the brand and licenced it to Qantas. I would assume that Qantas would have been a strong negotiator and would have wanted the brand included in the deal to prevent it from being applied to another (start-up) airline.

Impulse Airlines is still an entity within Qantas Group. Jetstar sits under it in the hierarchy. You'll see that structure in annual reports.

Thanks a lot guys. I assumed it went across to QF in some form or other and, as you suggest Damian, probably to stop anyone else getting hold of it (moreso after Impulse stopped operating as QantasLink).

David that structure is... interesting! Any idea as to why they have JQ sitting under Impulse?

From memory, didn't QF use Impulse, its 717 fleet, and its operator's license as the creation of Jetstar?

That's my recollection - QF took Impulse over to create its LCC, which was launched as Jetstar.

Kent partially right. Qantas did use Impulse to launch JQ, but considering how they first used Impulse I wouldn't say they brought them with that specific intention. Otherwise why would they have re-branded Impulse into Qantaslink first?
