I thought they looked similar to the distinctive E-jet strobes from what I just saw!

This is the first Boeing airliner to use the new LED exterior lighting, making the nav and strobe lights brighter than anything else in the sky, in addition to making it a ridiculously photogenic airplane. Last edited by James P.; 27th May 2012 at 07:46 PM. |

Looked similar to the C-17 strobe lights. I seen it fly over Arncliffe, even from a distance you can tell it something different. Possibly due to the design of the wing, the left and right nav lights seemed much more noticeable than other aircraft types.

The anti-collision lights looked like LED's, I thought. I didn't get a good enough look at the wingtip ones in action to see what they were, but I'll ask tomorrow if I get the chance and no-one has posted a definitive answer here.

I think you're right, according to this Boeing publication (http://www.boeing.com/commercial/aer...6_article4.pdf - last page), the landing lights are HID while position lights are LED.

Interesting!
Quite a few interesting facts and figures in that booklet too - thanks, James!

Did it do the left circuit over the Northern beaches? what's the noise difference to an A320?

Lower, probably the quietest jet aircraft flying.
