There's a very good response on Oz-spotters citing POSSIBLE causes for the ditching.

And the same thread indicates that the aircraft may have been VH-NGA NOT VH-AJJ, file footage of which is being shown on various news services.

Confirmation anyone ?

I will wait for the incident report before I make any judgement of the pilot being a Hero of a Cowboy.

per Crikey, Sandilands is very scathing on the pilot and PelAir, including calling the flight as illegal etc etc

CASA must act now to prosecute over Pel-Air crash

Does anyone here have a great insight into the regulations? I was wondering if there was some kind of exemption from having fuel for a diversion if the aircraft is carrying out emergency services etc etc???

Not to worry Andrew- the truth will come out in the preliminary ATSB report and subsequent findings no doubt which will be tracked by the media intensly.
