Nope thats correct matt. They swap. It will go as UA840. as there is a switch of aircraft when it arrives back from MEL. 121UA will rest at parking and leave 1st as the MEL flight comes back it will have to stay to be cleaned and catered. Look at yesterdays and previous flights. They acctually do SFO-SYD-LAX and LAX-SYD-MEL-SYD-SFO.

Yesterdays:

N175UA UA0839 03/04/2009 06:24 United Airlines B747-422 JFK-LAX-Sydney

Arrived from LAX and Departed to SFO

N175UA UA0870 03/04/2009 16:34 United Airlines B747-422 Sydney-San Francisco-Chicago

Day before that:

N105UA UA0863 02/04/2009 06:51 United Airlines B747-451 Chicago-San Francisco-Sydney

Arrived from SFO departed to LAX.

N105UA UA0840 02/04/2009 16:51 United Airlines B747-451 Sydney-LAX-JFK

Here's United this morning to Melbourne. Took off from intersection near runway 07/25 and rotated at the vehicular bridge. Clouds not doing any favor though. Thanks Tim for the info!

Smokey engines!
