Default Qatar Launches Perth Services

This is the second Australian route for Qatar, with Melbourne being served daily 77L's since late 2009.

Wow nice immediate upgrade! Guess that makes the QR service more competitive with the recent EK upgrades. Good on them

Thankfully other airlines see some value in serving Perth even if Qantas don't.

I'm not so sure that the Qantas people don't see the value in international flying to/from Perth. My hunch is that they can't get the value at the moment, for a whole host of reasons, perhaps some of which could be:
  • interesting fleet mix choices/aircraft purchases (under previous management)
  • the lack of a closely based Oneworld partner airline
  • having to push most traffic through SIN
  • an interesting network strategy
  • the absence of the Qantas brand in many markets

Things may change a little when 787's finally come on line and MH become part of the Oneworld alliance (and to a much lesser degree, IT, if they overcome their current financial issues).

Announced today that Qatar will operate Boeing 787 Dreamliner's to Perth when they increase to daily in December. Can be seen in todays traveltoday.

Yes if AI do not start services to SYD and or MEL this year, then QR will be the first operator to Australia and PER will be the first city to get the 787.Out of left base that one.

Qatar are to start B787's to Perth from 1st February 2013...

And where would you propose Qantas operates to from Perth Chris B, keeping in mind fleet and bilateral arrangements.
