Electric plane to set world record in South Australian flyover

An Adelaide-based Aerotech company is aiming to break a world flying record using the country's only electric aircraft. The battery-powered plane took off from Parafield Airport this morning, launching a mammoth endurance test across the state.

A company in the US are also attempting to get FAA approval for electric aircraft to be used for pilot training. As long as the training flight is under an hour (endurance of batteries)

A brave new world...

Good luck to them , however , 1000Km in 7 days , that’s just about 150km / day , not exactly groundbreaking is it . It’s a little over 1 hr flying per day . I wonder how long it takes to charge the battery ? , that wasn’t mentioned in the video either . I can’t see how in its present form this particular aircraft can be a worthy successor to conventional powered aircraft in the training scenario . A training aeroplane doesn’t make money sat on the tarmac coupled to a charging cord .
