Electric plane to set world record in South Australian flyover
An Adelaide-based Aerotech company is aiming to break a world flying record using the country's only electric aircraft. The battery-powered plane took off from Parafield Airport this morning, launching a mammoth endurance test across the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVAELMa7-DU A company in the US are also attempting to get FAA approval for electric aircraft to be used for pilot training. Good luck to them , however , 1000Km in 7 days , that’s just about 150km / day , not exactly groundbreaking is it . It’s a little over 1 hr flying per day . I wonder how long it takes to charge the battery ? , that wasn’t mentioned in the video either . I can’t see how in its present form this particular aircraft can be a worthy successor to conventional powered aircraft in the training scenario . A training aeroplane doesn’t make money sat on the tarmac coupled to a charging cord .
