haven't even clocked up 10,000 shots with the 30D...anyways, I certainly don't want 15mb raw images on my CF or PC for that matter.

The 50D is going to run alongside the 40D until atleast February, 40D will get a pricedrop down to $1299 RRP body only. The 50D will also be available to Retailers (not just pro stores, like the 40D until very recently) so there should be a lot more competition on price.

Sorry to bring this thread up again.

Did anyone buy the 50D? And what are their experiences with it?

I'm looking at it, as a new camera, when my KRUDD Stimulus comes through...

Not sure of the thought behind it. I was checking out a 50d ( i currently use the 40d )at DCW and the guy there told me to aim for the 5dII as the 50d 15.1 mp ( well the 5d is 21 mp) created images to soft and noisey. I am not the most technical with cameras, it might have been a sales pitch for me to spend more money, but the end result was he was trying to steer me away from the 50d.

I have the 50D and have found it to be a great camera. Relatively easy to use (converted from film SLR to DSLR) and the images are clean, high quality and as good as the user (me) allows them to be.

If you get into the nitty gritty of digital photos like some reviews do well you may see faults with all types of semi pro DSLR's images. They are not of the quality as a pro DSLR as the sensors are what really makes the camera and the real good sensors are in the pro DSLR's like the Canon Mk 5dII.

At the end of the day i have also found a good quality lens makes more difference than the camera. Great camera and a low grade lens means low grade shots. High quality lens and a medium range camera like say the Canon 450 can mean excellent shots, that very few people would fine faults with.

As for going for 15.1mp over the 40D's 10mp - if all your photos will remain on a hard drive or be developed on a normal size photgraphic paper, then you don't need to go any higher than 10mp really, even 5mp would be fine. I only got the 50D as i could afford it over the 40D - if i didn't have the extra cash then a 40D would have been my choice.

If I did not have the 40d and was in the market for a camera, I'd get the 50d on knowing how reliable my previous canons have been. They also continue to take great photos with a amateur behind it:o.
